How to use your anger for your benefit?

What do most people do when they are angry?

They take it out.

On others, on themselves or on things. My younger kid hurls whatever is in his hands. The elder one starts murmuring. I become silent and burn inside. My wife yells.

It is usually not the anger but what people do or say in the state of anger which causes damage.

At the core, anger is raw energy. And energy can be used for both constructive and destructive purposes.

Destructive uses of anger don't warrant a post. We are all self-taught experts at it already.

Here is one technique I use to put anger for constructive purposes.

1. Become aware that I’m angry and the reason for it.

2. Be careful not to fritter it away recklessly. Seriously. It’s a valuable resource.

3. Pick one task (important enough) which I have been wanting to do but haven’t done because of inertia or boredom.

4. Get into the core of the anger and feel it fully. Allow the raw energy of the anger to charge me up.

5. Execute the task (picked in step 3) using the energy of the emotion.

6. By the time I complete the task, the feverishness of the emotion is gone and I have a concrete positive result in front.

This method is not a fluke and is based on the spiritual principles explained in the Bhagwad Gita. The way to come out of tamas (inertia) is by applying rajas (raw energy).

It works!

This post is a proof. I was angry today and writing a LinkedIn post was long due. The job got done.

Try it out for yourself. Don’t have to give up anger. Don’t have to pretend it’s not there. Just use it. Here is a simple formula to remember the technique.

ANGER + AWARENESS + APPLICATION (of energy) = RESULTS
